SKK is an organization formed during the summer of 2020 to help our community fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Our original goal was to raise money for school supplies for the underprivileged, hence our name SKK (School Kits for Kids). However as the COVID-19 crisis worsened, we decided to adapt to it. Though our name has stayed the same, our mission has expanded.
The Original Problem
The world was enduring one of the deadliest pandemics in history: COVID-19. This highly contagious disease caused significant issues in several countries such as decreased productivity, providing sufficient food to families, and maintaining decent education for children. However, the SKK organization seeked to solve one part of the problem: assisting a child's education during the difficult times. During the COVID-19 outbreak, many parents had lost their only source of income due to the in-person requirement of their jobs, and therefore could not pay for basic necessities, such as school supplies for their children.
What We Did
To help the underprivileged children of Orange Country, we created a drive to collect money and school supplies which would be given to the children. We donated over $1,600 and two large moving boxes filled with school supplies to the drive that the United Way foundation was hosting at the time.
At the time, India experienced a dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases across the peninsula. The surge had put millions of people in the hospital and led to countless deaths that were being underreported. With the hospitals overwhelmed and the healthcare system collapsing, the need for better funding was more important than ever. In response to the situation, SKK is created a fundraiser for the CHILDLINE India Foundation to send immediate monetary funds to the region.
